The Medical Education Initiative on Molecular Targeted Therapy of Cancer (MTTC), established in 2001 and headed by the International Education Council (IEC), was developed to provide high quality medical education for medical oncologists following the guidelines for continuing medical education (CME).
Based on the presentations of the 1st International Medical Education Workshop held in Paris in 2002, the IEC developed educational content as a platform for future medical education activities in the form of a Core Educational Curriculum. In a series of international and national workshops under the guidance of the IEC, the Core Curriculum was used as the basis for providing medical education to medical oncologists. The Core Curriculum is regularly updated to provide the basis for all MTTC activities.
Within the framework of the International Medical Education Initiative, regional initiatives have begun in Latin America, the Asia Pacific region and Scandinavia.
The opinion leaders in Latin America and the Asia Pacific region were eager to join the initiative and adapt the content to their own markets. This proves that the initiative is attractive and that there is unmet need for medical education in these areas.
In addition, the Medical Education Initiative on MTTC has proven to be of high scientific quality and educational value, based on international accreditation by the European Union of Medical Specialists (UEMS; EACCME), the Federation of European Cancer Societies (FECS; ACOE), the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO) and national accreditation in Latin America and the Asia Pacific region.
